Keswick Hall, Charlottesville, VA

The first thing that struck me as I arrived at Keswick Hall is the well-tended gardens bursting with color that surround this impressive 48 room mansion set on 600 acres in the Virginia countryside. Built in 1912 as a private estate, Villa Crawford was restored in the early 1990s and stands out as the historic north wing of this beautiful luxury hotel on the outskirts of Charlottesville, VA.

One step inside and I was instantly taken by the cozy décor and southern hospitality.  After settling into my room, which was surprisingly spacious and generously appointed (plush robes and Molton Brown amenities) I went to explore the mansion.

So many enchanting spaces to enjoy the welcome cocktail that comes with the Stay & Play package!

Golf on “Full Cry”

Golf day begins with a delicious southern style breakfast for two at Fossets, whose floor to ceiling windows offer mesmerizing views of the golf course and the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains beyond.

My twosome included my hubby who played the course from the championship tees for a different perspective. I see why this Pete Dye designed layout is ranked No. 3 in Golfweeks’s “ Best Courses You Can Play in Virginia” and made Golf Digest’s prestigious “Best New Courses for 2015”.

While Mark was enjoying the challenge, I found the forward tee placement to be thoughtful in creating an open path to the green as well as manageable distances to score a few pars!

For me, golf is about being outside on a beautiful day and our round on Full Cry exceeded my expectations. The course conditions were immaculate and the view around every corner was more stunning then the next. We finished our round in 3 hours and 45 minutes and that’s with photo time included!

Getting There

Wherever you start your journey, the scenic ride through the rolling hills of Virginia hunt country will put you in the mindset for a luxurious country retreat. It’s a beautiful ride from Charlottesville (16 miles) Richmond (70 miles) or Washington’s Dulles (100 miles) airport and well worth the trip. The region is home to celebrated landmarks including Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and the University of Virginia as well as over 25 wineries, breweries, and cideries.
