Some golfers think a Par 3 course isn’t “real” golf,  but we’re here to bust that myth. These shorter golf courses, which are great for beginners and experienced golfers alike, can make a big impact on your game (and your schedule) no matter what your skill set includes.

A quick refresher: A par 3 hole is designed so you hit the green with your first shot and finish with two putts for a score of three. Since the holes are shorter, so it’s all about accuracy, not power. And because there’s less space, riding carts aren’t allowed, which means you’ll be walking the course. So if you’ve ever wondered, is golf good exercise? Walking a Par 3 course definitely counts.

Here’s why we love Par 3 courses — and why you might too:

  • They improve your short game. These courses are perfect for working on approach shots, chipping, and putting – the shots that make a difference on your scorecard.

  • They’re quick to play. A 9-hole golf round on a Par 3 course can take just an hour or two. Perfect when you want to squeeze in some golf without committing your whole day.

  • They’re beginner-friendly. Shorter holes and a more relaxed vibe make these courses a great place to learn, practice, and get comfortable with how golf scoring works.

  • They’re easier on your wallet. Most Par 3 courses are more affordable than full-length ones, a win-win for fun and budget.

  • You can still mix it up. Want to play a golf scramble? Go for it! Par 3 courses are great for casual formats with friends.

  • They get you moving. Walking the course gives you a light workout and plenty of fresh air, and more time to chat with your group.
